(if anyone has specific verses i would appreciate a quote or link.)
what does this tell us?
Quote from: dylan
"God also states in the bible that he and his works are beyond our understanding"
if quotes like this are contained in god's word (the bible) then that is tantamount to saying everything that you think that you understand is wrong.
Quote from: millions of people
"god works in mysterious ways"
if there is a god, and this quote is true, then the door is left open to infinite possibilities. what if god is a prankster a' la Loki, who takes endless joy in the bumblings of us lowly humans? what if ours is an infant god, and we are mere playthings for his amusement?
if you are a christian, and these quotes are true, wouldn't that mean that your faith lies in your understanding of a god who's word says that he is not understandable? wouldn't that alone invalidate any other claim made about god in the bible, or anywhere else for that matter?
perhaps god would value skepticism of the claims in the bible above blind faith in it? perhaps god is pure evil and his word is aimed to deceive. claims like the ones above hurt a christians argument much more than they help it, but if these claims are indeed supported by the bible, it seems to suggest that to search for any understanding about god is futile. so why then be a christian? if god belief is so necessary to your worldview why not just be a deist?
